I like the classic style of vintage jewelry. Even though I don’t have many grand occasions on my calendar, I would love to wear a classic piece on an ordinary day. When I looked through Dorsey’s collection, something within me connected immediately. Dorsey’s has classic pieces that I could wear with a sweater on an ordinary day, adding refined sophistication to my outfit.

What stones does Dorsey use in its jewelry?

I love Dorsey’s classic look, and I wanted to know more about the stones they use. The brand uses lab-grown diamonds, sapphires, moissanite, and nano gemstones. I learned something new, though. Dorsey’s diamonds are real, with the same chemical and physical properties as mined diamonds. However, they grew in a lab rather than being extracted from Mother Earth.

Dorsey’s white sapphires are real sapphires, but they were also grown in a lab. Moissanite is known for its sparkle and rainbow flashes, and Dorsey’s nano gemstones appear in its colorful pieces. The design catches your eye first, but the materials help you understand the concept and the message behind every piece.

The woman behind Dorsey

Meg Strachan founded Dorsey in 2019. She named the brand after her grandmother, who collected jewelry and inspired her love for vintage pieces. Meg used to work in fashion marketing before starting Dorsey, and in the beginning, as a good entrepreneur, she had to pack and ship orders herself.

FAQs about Dorsey jewelry

Are Dorsey’s stones real?

The word “real” can get confusing here. Dorsey sells lab-grown diamonds and sapphires, along with moissanite and nano gemstones. They aren’t all the same material. I’d check the stone listed on each piece rather than assume every clear stone is a diamond.

Are lab-grown diamonds actually diamonds?

Yes. Growing a diamond in a lab doesn’t make it glass. It has the same crystal structure and nearly the same properties as a mined diamond. The difference is where it grew.

Is moissanite a diamond?

No. Moissanite is a separate gemstone with its own sparkle. Dorsey’s moissanite is made in a lab and gives those colorful flashes you may notice when the light hits it.

Why the price if the stones are lab-grown?

The stone is only part of the piece. There’s also the metal, the cutting, the setting, and the design. You’re paying for the brand, too. I’d look at the full description: solid gold and gold-coated silver are different materials, even when they look similar in a photo.

Does Dorsey jewelry turn dark?

It can tarnish or change with wear, depending on the metal and finish. Dorsey notes that lotions and perfume can speed up tarnishing. I wouldn’t read “gold-coated” as a promise that the finish will stay the same forever.

Is Dorsey jewelry waterproof?

I wouldn’t treat the whole collection as waterproof. Dorsey advises taking off silver, plated, and coated pieces before showering or swimming.
